Tyranny Rules!!!!

I'm going to make the first post here because I'm a tyrant (actually it's because I'm probably the first one out of bed with nothing better to do).

Anyway, I'm so glad everyone is going to be playing. I think that this will be a slower moving game than some RPGs but I still think we should make a minimum number of posts required a week to keep everything moving and to keep interest from dying. What do you all think?

Buffy, Cordelia, Wesley and Faith will be the characters that at this point will be doing a lot of New York based posting. We thought Gunn and Dawn could be characters that "visit", but we could also figure out ways that they are regular characters if you want them to be. Lee and I had discussed that the general theme is "resurrection"-- kind of a new beginning for people who are really wounded and haunted about their pasts. So we're looking at adult characterization and some level of angst but not melodrama. Of course humor and happiness can occur too- let's just be careful not to make everyone a Mary Sue.

Lee and I had also discussed that we might start with character posts that are just establishing where they are and what they're doing. Then we can move on to the "meeting up" posts and move into interaction/story. Is that ok with everyone?

Ideas/comments/questions and suggestions are very welcome. Seriously, as much as we joke about it I don't want to be laying down the law or anything-- this should be fun and interactive.

OH NO!! Tyranny has already started!! I just did a post. OH MY GOD! TYRANNY!

*****

Also, if we want to do character descriptions and post them here (either as separate OOC posts or in this post) to keep handy, that would be good too. Basically just the character's name, what's happened to him/he, how they'll first start interacting with the group, etc. If we don't want to, that's cool.

As for a minimum number of posts, that's a good idea. The actual number I'm flexible on, but I do like the idea. Some people will be able to post from work sometimes (like me when I'm at the office), others just at night at home. Whenever you can post is cool. This is supposed to be fun and relaxing, not stressful.

I've found that balancing the drama with the happy is very good. If we know there is going to be a lot of heavy, emotional posting for a bit (for whatever reason), we might want to plan something fun they could do-throw a party at Cordy's apartment, go clubbing, something like that that will allow them to blow off a little steam and will allow us to not be so heavily weighed down with the drama. A little break every now and then is good. :)

Also, I know Buffy is distancing herself from her Slayer life and trying to find out who Buffy Summers, Woman is, but with the addition of Faith and Wes, do we want to bring in the supernatural element with them or do we want to keep it as personal, human drama? Thoughts, ideas, questions about that?

I think we'll have to add in some supernatural at some point, and deal with B and C's struggles over that. I'm thinking maybe they won't get sucked in until after they've begun to explore feelings for each other-- either after they're together as a stumbling block or before as a way to bond.

It can be very personal, but we may need to get them involved with the Faith & Wes business in some way or we'll be doing two separate RPGs in one space. What do you think?

I can see Cordy becoming more involved first. I don't think she's struggling with the "Who am I?" question as much as Buffy is and would probably be more willing to jump back into the business. That could cause tension between B/C because Cordy is involved and could try to bring Buffy back into it, but she's not ready.

What does everyone else think?

Heh, I kind of see it the opposite-- Cordy is traumatized by it all so she wants nothing to do with it.

Hmmm. I kind of had the idea that, unlike in At Night, maybe Cordy starts getting the visions again. So maybe one way to deal with the way we're looking at the characters is to have Cordy freaking because she thought all of that was behind her but here she is with the visions and it pushes Buffy to get involved in some way.

I like that idea about the visions returning to Cordy. When should she receive them? Before or after they get involved? If it's after, I can see Buffy getting back to slaying and helping Wes/Faith, but if it's before, I think she would resent Cordy's pushing her back into her old life. I think either angle will be fun to play, it's just a question of which one.

question:

i'm not quite sure where you two envision Gunn fitting in to this story. This is an alternate post-chosen/AtS S5 right? what were the circumstances of Cordy leaving LA? would Gunn visit her and try to get her to come back? Or would he mostly be wanting to visit Wes his OMGtruelove friend?

also, i'm down with a min number of posts. i probably can't do more than three a week (maybe more, maybe less, depends on how my workload shakes down, it's too early for me to really know), but given that Gunn isn't a main player that should be okay right?

Gunn could fit in any way you want. I think I was imagining him to be the liason between Wes and Angel for a little while, and then maybe he gets sick of the W&H thing too and comes to NY to help. We could maybe give him some romance down the line with someone if we wanted. It would be fun to explore his friendship with Gunn post Fred.

Did you have any ideas of what you'd feel excited about or comfortable with?

As for posting, I think whatever you can manage is fine. The 3x a week would be more for main characters and people involved in an active storyline.

Dana and I were chatting last night and we started talking about Connor and possibly his interaction with Gunn. Canon seemed to show Connor respecting Gunn because of his ability to fight, and I could see that translating into a friendship between the two of them in this game. Connor could be Gunn's connection back to the "real" fight instead of being W&H's lackey, and Gunn could serve as an almost mentor-like figure for Connor.

How does that sound to everyone?

I like that idea, I think it could really work. I always wanted to see more interaction between the two, and this would be a great place to get to explore that potential friendship.
